  Next-generation 100GE interface

Based on the development trend of high throughput and large bandwidth in data centers, both server network cards and access switches are evolving towards next-generation 100GE interfaces. The next-generation 100GE interface consists of two 50GE physical channels. Compared with the previous-generation QSFP28 interface, the number of physical channels is reduced by half, and the port density is improved.

The next-generation 100GE interface currently has two package options: SFP-DD and DSFP:

  1) SFP-DD (Small Form-factor Pluggable-Double Density) is the main package type promoted by Alibaba and other enterprises, which doubles the density of the SFP interface and maintains backward compatibility with the SFP family of modules.

  2) DSFP (Dual Chanel Small Form-factor Pluggable) is a package type initiated and promoted by individual equipment manufacturers. It cancels a lot of control and indication pins, and uses software to read and write registers for communication and control.
